Crochet Waves Stitch Tutorial

There are so many different ways to crochet wavy stitches but I really wanted to find something to look very close to the wave knitting stitch. This is one of the options I did try for now. I intend to post one more later and see which one would I prefer in terms of softness of the garment.

This sample I crochet with Dorps Baby Merino yarn and I used crochet hook 3.5mm. It became really nice visually but the texture didn’t feel soft enought to my liking. I have unraveled it and I crochet the same with 4.5mm hook. It feels much better to me, softer for sure. Therefore, I would advise you to try a small sample and see how you feel about the yarn you are using and the hook size.

chst = chain stitch
tr = treble crochet (double crochet in US terms)
dc = double crochet (single crochet in US terms)

The pattern:
Start by working a chain of however many repetitions of 17 you like (I did 3) + 3 additional chains at the end.

R1: Tr in the third st from the hook (this will count as 2 Tr in the first st). Then work 2Tr in next chain and 2Tr in the chain after – that it in the first 3 chains you will have a total of 6th (2 in each chain).

Continue working by: *[Skip chst, 1Tr] 5 times. Then skip one st and work by 2Tr in next 6 chst (12 tr over 6 chst)*. Work from * to * until the end of the row

R2: dc in every tr from the row below.

R3: Ch3, Tr in the first st. Work another 2Tr in the next 2 stitches (6Tr over 3st).
Continue working by: *[Skip chst, 1Tr] 5 times. Then skip one st and
work by 2Tr in next 6 chst (12 tr over 6 chst)*. Work from * to * until
the end of the row.

Repeat R2 and R3 as many times as you wish to reach the desired length of the scarf or blanket.

And this is it. Really friendly crochet stitch even for beginners and it would look stunning to crochet scarf or a blanket (baby blanket, lap blanket).

Please let me know if you have questions. Happy to help and amend if you find errors above 🙂
